As an independent documentary filmmaker and professor, I am committed to producing work that connects individuals across cultures. More than a decade of community media experience combined with a background in political economics, electronic art, and Latin American studies, fuel my exploration of documentary and new media. Having lived in Central America for five years, I continue to conduct media workshops for women across the Americas.
My last film, Novela, Novela is the story of how a group of Nicaraguan feminists have fused human rights with popular culture to create what has become Nicaragua's most popular telenovela, Sexto Sentido. This project won the "Freedom Award" at Outfest, L.A. , second place from the International Association of Women in Radio and Television (IAWRT) and a merit in film award from the Latin American Studies Association. Available through www.frameline.org/distribution.
I am currently working on a feature length documentary "Marvelous Resources." This film examines diverse perspectives on water privatization across the Americas. A special emphasis is placed on "women and water."
